Description:A58 Rochdale Road, Calderdale.

On the left you can see a track heading off over the moor. This is the Roman / Pack Horse route joining, briefly, the A58.

This was a busy road during the Civil War. From Link4Life; a 'strong guard kepte by the Lancashire forces at a passage into both counties at a place called Blakston Edge,' Defending against the advancing army under Earl of Newcastle in July 1642 were 800 men with a further 1200 garrisoned in Rochdale and 'two pieces of ordnance'.
