Taken from 1982 Collins Atlas of Britain. Shows the planned extension of the M65 from Burnley to Blackburn, the planned Whitebirk diversion of the A6119, and the planned A56 diversion over the tops from the end of the then A622 (not numbered on the map) Haslingden bypass to j8 of the M65. Also see the planned A59 Penwortham bypass of Preston - 50 years since first planned, it has still never materialised, although the top section did get built. Note the old route of the A582, and the A677 Haslingden to Blackburn.
