Description:Thomas Hardy Locations, Far From the Madding Crowd(2)
This is Grey's Bridge where the Dorchester to London Rd crosses the Frome just outside the town. In the novel the dying Fanny collapsed against the guard stone of this bridge and was rescued by a large dog that acted as her crutch and got her as far as the town's poor-house where she died.
