Finchingfield Bridge is a narrow bridge in the middle of Finchingfield, Essex. It carries the B1057 and B1053 in a short multiplex across Finchingfield Brook, a tributary of the River Blackwater. The bridge is a single arch bridge made of brick built around the Early 19th Century. There is a separate footbridge to the south side of the pond to the south of the road bridge, as the bridge is narrow with busy traffic, so walking across it directly is discouraged.
The bridge is in a poor condition as a result of vehicle impacts and is weak and unable to be strengthened to a modern standard. The bridge was closed for a short time in 2020 to enable interim remedial work to take place, however, as of 2021, there are plans to replace the bridge with a modern structure, built to resemble the existing bridge, albeit 1.5m wider to incorporate modern safety features[1].
