The Folkestone - Ostend was a former Sealink route. It was mainly operated for rail and freight purposes, with the principal ferry on the route in recent years being the Vortigern; a ferry designed for dual ro/ro and rail operations.
Operations on this route recommenced following the 1972 construction of a modern linkspan at Folkestone, and continued until 1985, at which point Ostend traffic was transferred to Dover.
