Ford Cross lies on the A39 near Kentisbury a couple of miles west of Blackmoor Gate. It has never been a true crossroads, the A39 turning from east to south at a T junction, with the B3229 which heads north, while the western arm turns off the B3229 just a few yards to the north. It was this road, always a minor road, which formerly crossed a ford, so giving the junction its name. However, Ford Bridge is an old stone arch, suggesting that the name is very old. It appears that the full name of the junction is Kentisbury Ford Cross.
