The A13 mainline is visible in the background going over the A1089. North of the A13, the A1089 curves west and then splits into the eastbound slips. The A13 between M25 and A128 as well as the A1089 were opened in 1982 as a 'Grays Bypass' project. The A13, despite losing trunk status east of here, is D3 throughout, up to the A128.

Before the A13 bypass for Grays opened in 1982, the old A13 used what is now unclassified Lodge Lane west of this junction, and the brief dual section of A1013 between here and Daneholes junction. Southend Road, heading south to my right, and now A1013, was most probably the *original* A13, before the S2 Arterial Road linking Purfleet (London Road) and Grays (Lodge Lane) was built in the 1920s. Arterial Road is now part of the A1306 heading to Dagenham.

Lodge Lane is part unclassified but was the old A13 before the present A13 north of Grays opened in 1982, Southend Road being an even earlier alignment, pre-1920s-ish.
