All signs above the EMS rotate when the road is closed north of J49 diverting the traffic north via the A168 (A19) - Often used for diverted traffic for Newcastle.

Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Aug 03, 2005 by LonewolfThis is the new roundabout at Walshford looking south. Note we have an original A1 south route confirmation sign right on the corner. The other one says The South (A1) and Wetherby A168. The road is the old southbound carriageway, the northbound is gone. The Bridge Inn is about 200 yards off the right hand side of the pic.

Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Feb 25, 2006 by TruveloThe stretch north of Wetherby has been singled and the kink now looks like it did in the 19th century.

Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Apr 21, 2005 by M4SimonThis shot is looking north from the Cowthorpe road bridge above the old A1, looking at it its hard to belive that yesterday this road was packed with A1 traffic. Look at how quiet it is now, bet the people in that house on the left of the photo are pleased.

Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Dec 23, 2008 by NICK 647063Just a few years on and found some old pics of how this section looked, looking north towards walshford, blue sign on left says start of motorway and gives distance.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Dec 23, 2008 by NICK 647063This is simply the reverse view of Old A1_1. I now have my back to the roundabout and looking north. The Walshford flyover is just visible to the right of the trees as are the roofs of lorries on the new stretch. So the A1 has to have run pretty much from me direct to that bridge.
