Middlesborough Transporter Bridge - User's eye view
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Mar 18, 2006 by stevewayI took this a about 3 weeks ago whilst up there. The bridge is almost 100 years old (since building of it started) and it still works. The recent installation of the floodlights really does wonders for the appearance of the bridge at night. Although its rare for ships to pass under the bridge nowadays, as soon as i got on the bridge here two ships passed under and nearly caused me to miss the train home!

This is the A178 From Middlesbrough to Hartlepool (Via transporter bridge and the entrances to all the petrochemical works and oil refineries). The photos has been taken at the D1 section of road by the entrance/exit for the Petroplus/Huntsman refinery, with the Saltholme wetlands either side. The overhead gantry of the road to SealSands can be seen on the horizon to the right

Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Jan 27, 2007 by True YorkiePart of the A178 in Teeside, the Transporter bridge is nearly 100 years old and still in daily use (unless the winds are so strong it threatens to make the cradle act like a pendulum!)... a cyclist or pedestrian can cross it for only 50p, so it's worth the crossing. The bridge is regularly used for public stunts, and open days are also available. A brilliant sight and my favorite structure up north.
