The first part of the A189 dual carriageway is completed, opening up the area for investment.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Sep 15, 2008 by SteveA30Blue House Blue House, and the roundabout by the same name. This is the junction of the A189 and the Great North Road and the meeting point of the Town Moor with Dukes Moor and Little Moor.
Blue House corner, Newcastle upon Tyne Taken about 1963 when the A1 still ran through the centre of Newcastle.
The house behind the bus used to be occupied by a policeman and was (and I believe still is) always painted blue.
Kitty Brewster Bridge The Kitty Brewster Bridge carries the A189 over the River Blyth (seen at low tide). Beyond is a rail bridge, part of a network of railways built primarily to serve the collieries of south-east Northumberland, under the general name of the Blyth and Tyne railway. The line has been closed for passenger traffic for many years but still carries freight.
