Looking down the hill to East Linton (looking east), the old A1 curves round to the right
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Feb 11, 2008 by leopard680I enjoy seeing these old garages and cafes as a snaphsot to a bygone age, when this was the A1 (behind camera). Even older A1 into middle of Haddington on the other side of the building
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Feb 11, 2008 by leopard680This old sign is obviously a legacy of when the road to the left of this picture was the A1, to prevent traffic turning right across the busy road. An even older alignment of A1 through the middle of Haddington passes to the other side of the building to the right of the picture

Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Feb 11, 2008 by leopard680I think this is a wonderfully periodic spot on an old major road
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Feb 11, 2008 by leopard680In 2007 the road junction was re engineered with a roundabout being replaced by a light controlled junction. As a result getting onto Milton Road from the new A1 is easier, but going from the A1 to the Sir Harry Lauder Road to Leith usually involves some queuing. The red sign refers to a similar project at a roundabout in Seafield.
Taken while canoeing down the Tyne, there are 3 bridges if you look carefully. The road bridge for the old A1, the railway bridge and the old Tyne Bridge at East Linton.
Original A1 through East Linton to the left, bypass (now A199) to the right, and an old fashioned garage at the intersection.
