This is a filter-in-turn junction Beaumont, St Peter a few kilometres west of St.Helier, where the A1 and A12 merge into the A1. This is basically a 'free-for-all' roundabout where each person must take their turn to "filter" through the junction but at least Jersey drivers seem more patient unlike their UK cousins!

A1 Esplanade, St Helier Jersey
The lower part of the Esplanade (hidden from view on the right) was by-passed by a new relief road years ago. The A1 now on the relief road on the left, after emerging from the underpass, curves round joining the upper part of the Esplanade seen right ahead.

A1 'Route de la Liberation' underpass, St.Helier Jersey
The Route de la Liberation itself is a relief road built to by-pass the southern Esplanade as it heads into town. But it seems unable to stop the usual rush hour jams! The relief road eventually joins up with the northern Esplanade beyond. The roundabout interchange provides easy access to the harbour for the ferry and the boat marina. The traffic on the eastbound heads towards the Tunnel where D3 becomes S2

The Esplanade becomes Victoria Avenue in St.Helier, Jersey
The A1 Esplanade becomes the A2 Victoria Avenue straight ahead as the A1 turns off to the right at this junction. There used to be a roundabout at this junction. The "right phase" of this junction is fairly useless, since most traffic wishing to use it can access the same routes via the A1.

The junction of A1 and A12 in St Peter. The filter in turn means that traffic must take it in turns to go round the roundabout rather than the normal give way to the right rule.

Jersey Island Plan 1986 showing proposals for the new roads and bus station in the reclamation. The proposals included keeping the Esplanade to its original alignment and constructing a new mega roundabout with an underground multistorey car park in the centre. The Esplanade east of Castle Street would be one-way to serve the new bus station, located at the old abattoir, with the A1 travelling along its modern aligment towards the Tunnel.
In the end, a new relief road and grade separated roundabout was constructed. The underground car park was constructed a bit further south and a surface car park was built between the relief road and the old A1.

The road here frequently gets backed up in the centre lane with traffic heading through the bottleneck S1 to the east. Ahead a unique 'Allow buses to merge' can be seen, buses will come down the slip road to the left and need to be in the centre lane to travel east through the Tunnel.
A newly opened segregated cycle track alongside the A1. This used to run along the section of pavement on the left as a line-seperated shared use track, but this new track was opened last year to speed up journeys through the town by bike.
A view over the A1 and A2 of Jersey heading east towards 'the Tunnel'. The 'West Park roundabout' forms the junction of the B87 St Aubin's Road, A1 Route de Saint Aubin and A1 unnamed link road. The clockwise St Helier Ring Road travels eastbound up the link road and takes a right turn at the roundabout onto the B87. From the link road, vehicles cannot move from the A1 link road to/from the A2 Victoria Avenue; although there is no prohibited movements, the movement would be practically impossible due to the junction. This junction is soon to be reconstructed as part of the Overdale Hospital works.
