50 kilometers into our journey from Klaipeda to Vilnius. Klaipeda is the third biggest city, Kaunas is second and Vilnius is the capital. It is motorway to Kaunas, which is 2/3rds of the way to Vilnius. The motorway was built by the Russians in 1987 as Klaipeda is an important port.

Kaunas is the second largest city in the country and is the junction to turn for Poland when driving from Klaipeda, which is on the Baltic Coast, unless you want to go through the Kaliningrad Region.
