A252 Charing Northern Bypass

The last known S3 in Kent, and one of the last few left in the UK. Thought to have been opened in 1927 with the A20 Charing Bypass (just out out of sight in the distance), it remains a classic piece of inter-war arterial road.

A252 Suicide Lane

Rare S3 'suicide lane' section at the start of the A252 where it leaves the A20 at Charing. The S3 section runs for about mile as the road climbs the scarp slope of the North Downs en route to Canterbury. There are other pictures of this section on SABRE but this view shows it still in place on 4th June 2008.
