Lord of the Manor (Old and new)

Scan showing the old and new road layout at the Lord of The Manor near Ramsgate. We lost a congested crossroads and gained a new rail bridge, two new roundabouts and two disused railway bridges. The old route of the A253 has been added for information.

A253 Disused Bridge, March 2004

Back in 2004 the rubble here supported a fine crop of daffodils. This view is looking back towards Cliffsend village.

Old A253 Before the Fly Tippers

The same view, on 28th March 2004, with just a small amount of rubble and some nice daffodils. The grass area is now very overgrown and only a narrow strip next the crash barrier is accessible on foot.

Old A253 Near Cliffsend

Final picture of the old A253 looking towards Cliffsend. Taken in March 2004 the grass has been taken over by shrubs. Two railway bridges were made redundant buy the new roundabouts at Lord of the Manor. The other carried the A256 and pictures of that follow...

Old A253 Fly Tipping

Progress is thwarted by a selection of fly tipping courtesy of Thanet's chavvier elements. They've even left the barrow. Taken 16th June 2008.

A253 Disused Railway Bridge

Crossing the Ashford-Ramsgate railway line the old A253 bears left to the now obliterated crossroads where it met the A256. As I recall there were traffic lights at the junction but nonetheless I remember queuing across here on day trips to Ramsgate as a kid.

Approaching the old railway bridge the carriageway is slowing being reclaimed by the cotoneaster bush.

Old A253 Lord of the Manor - Coppermine - 18746.jpg
Old A253 Lord of the Manor

Approaching from the west, the old A253 nears what used to be the Lord of the Manor crossroads just outside Ramsgate (where it met the A256). This road has been superseded by a pair of new roundabouts leaving a short stub of road and a redundant railway bridge which is just around the corner. I liked the fact that the roadwork barriers still bear a notice apologizing for any inconvenience. Taken 16th June 2008.
