I recon this is worse than the Hindead bit. My reason is becasue this was planned to be a on grade roundabout. The hindhead bit is left over from the old days.

Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Jul 04, 2007 by SnowmanSouthern bit of the A3(M) - well approaching it from the Chichester direction. I'm sure as recently as 1990, this access wasnt here. To go up the A3 from Chichester and Hayling Island you had to go through Horndean on B class roads. Same for coming from the north. Anyone remember this?
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Jul 04, 2007 by SnowmanLooking London-bound from the UniS/Onslow Village junction. Note how close the footway/cycleway is to the road, luckily behind a crash barrier. There is a pedestrian underpass here, but some people prefer to cross the busy A3, climbing over anti-pedestrian railings at the same time. Would you want to cross this road?

Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Jun 13, 2007 by sotonsteveLooking Portsmouth-bound where a newer-build section on the flyover meets the old bypass. Just before the flyover heading southbound a 50mph limit starts, as a lot of traffic has to merge from this sliproad into two lanes of a trunk road, plus the old road is more narrow and winding.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Mar 22, 2007 by sotonsteveA photo showing some wooden fencing to deaden the traffic noise and prevent pedestrians from crossing the busy road. There are a few gates in the fencing and they aren't locked, and a couple of them were open.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Mar 22, 2007 by sotonsteveLondon Bridge is the eariest of the London Crossings, first opened in round AD 50. Since then it has had lots of incations, some even with buildings on it. The longest was up for 600 years. The Modern bridge is rarther bland really. Rebuilt in the 1970's as a D3 road, it relaced a Victorian built structure, some of witch went to an Amercan ro rebuild it in Arizona. Urban leigions has it he thought he was geting Tower Bridge. I doubt it though. The Bridge is now lit with red light to make it look less bland.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Mar 05, 2007 by ABeatonThis view of London Bridge was taken on a more dull day. Facing this way sees the city. The A3 heads towards the City for its final yards as it nears it modern end, the A10. The old end was at Bank. This view also climpes Tower 42 (formerly the NatWest building), one of London's earilest Skyscpaters, opened in 1980.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Mar 05, 2007 by ABeatonThis is London Bridge facing South. It is a D3 road these days. In this view, you can see a few buildings inculding Southwark Chatheral, built in a tyivcal Southern fashion using flint. This road is part of the A3 so this will take you all the way to Pouthsmouth.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Mar 05, 2007 by ABeatonTotal closure of A3 to allow beams to be lifted into place. Southbound traffic diverted via slip roads.

Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Jun 02, 2005 by t1(M)View along Broad St, the very last section of the A3. The section past the junction is one-way towards the camera - traffic heading in the opposite direction has to loop to the right around the old Isle of Wight ferry terminal
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on May 28, 2005 by DavidBA closer view of Broad St, looking north. Here the 2-zone is to the *west* and the 3-zone to the *east*!!!
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on May 28, 2005 by DavidBNote the disused tramlines - is this a unique feature for a single-digit A-road??? :)
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on May 28, 2005 by DavidBGetting near the end now - note the view of Portsmouth's new Spinnaker Tower
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on May 28, 2005 by DavidBThe very end of the A3! There used to be a slipway here for the old floating bridge which went across to Gosport.
