The 'Lost Road', Blackgang (C) Ray Girvan
This is a view of the 'lost road', a section of the now-overgrown road at the foot of Gore Cliff that formerly connected Blackgang and Niton. Now this section is cut off at both ends by landslips caused by soft clay underlying the harder strata of the cliff.

Military Road (A3055) near Shippards Chine
Military Road (the A3055) winds its way along the south-west coast of the Isle of Wight. Here it climbs up to Compton Down through a cutting in the hill. This section of the road is a clearway, parking is only permitted at the various car parks (most of them National Trust-owned).

Road Junction at Freshwater Bay, Isle of Wight
Looking at the gradient of the hill, I was glad to be on foot, rather than two wheels! Here's an interesting road junction; the junction of the A3055 and the A3055. The A road comes down the hill, and turns off; the continuation, through Freshwater Bay, becomes Gate Lane.

Road out of Freshwater Bay, Isle of Wight
The road, which becomes the A3055, winds out of Freshwater Bay, in an easterly direction. Note the concrete barrier, to protect pedestrians from runaway vehicles.
