The Roundhouse rbt. although I don't know where such a building is, or if it still exists. Looking north, to the closed A350. A31 on right.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Jun 21, 2007 by SteveA30Dating from at least the 1960's, this is a good layout, designed for this specific location, rectangular, with straight sides on the east and west sides and easy wide exits. Unlike today's standard off the shelf products, identical in shape -circular- and, only varying in size, with tight deflections at exits, especially for lorries.

Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Apr 03, 2008 by TSThe top picture here looks at the A31 northeastbound at St. Ives, Dorset. The dual carriageway was installed in the late 1960s, leaving the old road (below, looking southwestbound) to resemble a country lane.
This is the view from the footbridge over the main road, and from the bottom of the footbridge along the old road at SU121037.

Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Oct 29, 2007 by SteveA30This is my idea to improve junctions 9 and 10 of the M3, giving free-flow access to/from the A34 and A31, by combining them in one fork just south of junction 9. The current junction 10 would close and the fork would become J10 (to avoid mucking up the numbering), with the current A31 south of the middle roundabout becoming a single-carriageway B-road (not sure what the number is). I've also grade separated the A31/A272/B3404 junction.
