A357, Sept 17 2008
An 'A' road untouched by the modern world. Heading south through Stalbridge, Dorset. The road curls around the ancient village cross.

Further on, it narrows but, without lights surprisingly. There are 2 sets at similar narrow bits at Yenston though.

Durweston Bridge over the River Stour.
A narrow bridge controlled by traffic light.
Durweston- old finger post A well-maintained original Dorset finger-post retaining its finial giving location and grid reference details. The original 'fingers' would probably have had rounded rather than pointed ends.
The old post office (or rather, the building erected on the site) is reflected in the mirror.
Durweston- detail of finger-post A close-up of the finial of the finger-post, giving location and grid reference details.
Shillingstone- road sign and sheep near Lamb House Farm Sheep graze alongside the turn for Child Okeford, whose sign retains the finial from the original finger-post, giving location and grid reference details. For a close-up of the finial, see 1752202.
No sign faces the side-road because it is one-way ??? traffic joining the main road does so a short distance further along.
Shillingstone- detail of Lamb House Farm road sign A close-up of the finial from the original finger-post, giving location and grid reference details, which has been retained and affixed to standard modern signage.
