A view of the Horse Lap collapse taken from the sea. The remains of the viaduct steelwork remains visible. The viaduct was not removed for scrap, just collapsed with explosive by the IOM Department of Transport when the Marine Drive was converted into a road in the 1950s

Visible just to the right of centre is the abutment of the Marine Drive Tramway bridge. When the tramway / footpath was converted into a road after WWII the bridge here was demolished into the ravine and the rerouted new road cut into the rather unstable cliff face.

Looking towards Douglas.
The imposing entrance Toll Gate built on Douglas Head to collect tolls from pedestrians using the Marine Drive when it functioned as a Tramway / Footpath. There was a toll house adjoining the gatehouse on the ledge overlooking the sea. This was demolished many years ago. The Half Bridge is also visible. In recent years traffic has been restricted to the landward side of the bridge.
