Paradise Circus.png
Draft design for Paradise Circus from the 1960s. This would have had more freeflow movements than the junction as built, including direct links to the A457. Areas shaded grey are in tunnels.

Great Charles Street Queensway Tunnel as seen from Snow Hill Station.jpg
The northern portal of Great Charles Street Queensway Tunnel, which carries the A38 under Paradise Circus. The road visible is signed as the A38 (although it was formerly the A4400, and some maps still list it with this name).

Paradise Circus had major roadworks at the time; yellow 'diverted traffic' and 'road reduces to one lane' signs are visible in the centre left of the image, handling the fallout from the nearby road closures.)

The image was taken a little before sunset: there was still easily enough ambient light to capture the details of the junction, but the sky had become dark enough that the cars had switched lights on, producing a sort of 'combined day/night' view of the junction.
