This 40mph limit is under threat as the council is planning on cutting it to 30

Edit Oct 2009 - this limit will be cut to 30 as the council has ignored all objections and will carry out its speed limit programme in full

A452 Bradnocks Marsh Roundabout Works

A follow up from a previous photo taken looking south east on 7 October 2007 albeit a little further north showing the works now well under way to construct the previously mentioned roundabout. (The sign for the Merc garage is the common point in both pics) 13 May 2009

A452-M40 Junction 14

Westerly view from what was the B4462 overbridge looking towards the roundabout junction where the A452 ends and the westbound on slip at junction 14 goes left whilst the eastbound off slip is straight ahead. This stretch used to be the A41 before the M40 was built and continued along what was the off slip to Longbridge. The road was then renumbered to A452 in connection with keeping through traffic to the motorway. 30 May 2008

A452 Kenilworth Road Leamington Spa

Southward looking view just inside the 30 zone looking towards the town centre. A regular haunt of the constabulary who stand on the right to catch speeding motorists or those not wearing seat belts - the nice wide side road on the right means you can be signalled in and an income generation ticket given to you with ease and in safety! May 13 2008

A452 Bradnocks Marsh Lane Balsall Common

South east view on A452 Kenilworth Road at Bradnocks Marsh Lane Balsall Common where a roundabout is to be constructed at SP224795. The previous gap location is highlighted by new kerbs and the arrow on the carriageway which has not been burnt off. Early utility diversion works in hand prior to carriageway/reservation works. 2 October 2007

Looking north west along the A452 Kenilworth Road in Balsall Common with a direction sign on the approach to the Station Road roundabout, the flash came on as it was a bit gloomy and picks up the reflection back from the sign.

Taken from the former B4462 roadbridge is this westerly view of the Junction 14 westbound on slip where it rises up from the A452 roundabout then crosses over the motorway before falling to join it. There is a camera post just off shot to the right.

Information Sign to Justify Speed Reduction and Camera Scheme A452 SP221803

A stretch of the A452 which is D2 and was 60MPH has been reduced to 50MPH with a Gatso one direction and a Truvelo the other direction between the B4102 SP223 818 and Balsall Common SP235 781, due to the presence of a large number of central reservation gaps which have been the cause of accidents. The scheme has involved the closing of all gaps except for 2, 1 of these being only available in one direction only. A new roundabout is being built in the distance at SP224 795, utility diversions in progress.

Early design for Castle Bromwich Interchange showing a standard roundabout interchange with all movements available to and from the M6. The junction was eventually built to a different design with only east facing sliproads to discourage commuter traffic from clogging up the M6.

Spitfire Island Spitfire Island is next to the factory where Spitfires were built, now the Jaguar Factory, at Castle Bromwich just off Junction 5 of the M6. The sculpture on the island celebrates the Spitfire and is called "Sentinel Spitfire". It makes little attempt to mimic the aerodynamic shape of a Spitfire, the Spitfires being aluminium cut-outs, but captures the essence of the plane - with a triptych of Spitfires fanning out into the sky. The steel support structure rises up from the ground to the soaring planes above; a perfect way of illustrating how this area was the place where 11,989 Spitfires were built and rose up from the ground to defend the country from fascism. The sculpture was designed by J.R.R. Tolkien???s great nephew Tim Tolkien; who is now attempting to get an Ent installed in another area of Birmingham.

A452-A4177 Junction Meer End Balsall Common

South east view of the A452/A4177 at Meer End where the A452 continues straight to Kenilworth and the A4177 starts on the right. Used to be known as Gambles Garage but that has long closed and is now a fuel distribution depot. October 1 2007

A4177-A452 Meer End Kenilworth-Balsall Common

North easterly view approaching gambles Garage Meer End where the A4177 joins the A452 - actually it has priority and it is a right angle bend as the ADS states. The garage is no longer there a fuel oil distributor has built a depot on the site.1 December 2007

Very unusual type of street light along the A452 at a roundabout between Solihull and Castle Bromwich. I'm told that these columns and brackets were probably installed in the 1960s, and apparently the original lanterns were Thorn/Atlas Alpha 3s. I remember when these street lights had Thorn Alpha 8s (SON/HPS) only a few years ago, and now they're Holophane V-Max (LED).

Along Chester Road (A452), just off Spitfire Island and heading up to Tyburn House Island for the A38.

Philips MA50/90 (SOX/LPS) and Philips SGS306 (SON/HPS) along Chester Road (A452) in Birmingham. The MA in the foreground is on a 10m column, and the SGS306 is on a 12m post-top.
