There is no pavement either side of the level crossing : pedestrians can use the path through the tunnel-like bridge under the track on the left of the photo.

Nearby is the site of Rhiwderin station, now a private residence <a title='http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1780893' rel='nofollow' href='http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1780893'>Link</a><img style='padding-left:2px;' alt='External link' title='External link - shift click to open in new window' src='http://s1.geograph.org.uk/img/external.png' width='10' height='10'/>. The station closed in March 1954. The single track line remains in use to connect Machen quarry with Park Junction, Newport. The quarry provides ballast for the western region of Network Rail.
