Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Feb 27, 2009 by AAndyStart of the D1+2 southbound. An odd feature here is on the northbound carriageway - the inside lane has arrows on the carriageway ( and signs) indicating moving into the outside lane to continue....this does seem inappropriate and the would be safer to have the outside lane merging into the inside one.

Originally uploaded to Coppermine on May 03, 2005 by antster1983The A470 acts as a bypass for Dolgellau, but actually cuts through the small market town along the course of a former railway along the River Whion. On either side of the town there are short sections of dual-carriageway - where the A494 towards Bala starts, on the eastern side of Dolgellau; and where the A493 starts as it clings to the coast around Cadair Idris on the western side. The photo is taken on the western side looking up the A470 towards Trawsfynydd.

A photo I took about 4 years ago, but as I drove this road today, I feel justified in entering it for POTM. The weather conditions were not conducive to taking a good photo today, which is why I'm using an older one.

Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Dec 11, 2009 by AAndyNamed after Owen Gethin Jones, the most prominent person to come from Penmachno after the Bishop Morgan who translated the Bible into Welsh. He was a poet, a local historian and also a highly successful building and civil engineering contractor. His most prominent achievement was the construction of the railway from Betws y Coed towards Blaenau Ffestiniog which includes this long viaduct that takes the railway from one side of the Lledr valley to the other.
