A494-A548-A550
The new layout of the junction at Drome Corner. The A494 is going to be dual 4-lane with hard-shoulder - the A550 dual 3-lane with hard shoulder. There are collector/distributor roads alongside the A550 to connect with the Deeside Interchange.

A494 Widening works - River Dee crossing
This is the temporary road layout at the end of the works to widen the A494 and A550 between the River Dee and The Deeside Park Interchange. When the widening works take place South of the river, a new bridge will be constructed carrying the southbound carriageway. Until then - all of the traffic will use the old bridge. The bridge is dual 2-lane without hard shoulder - which goes to dual 4-lane with hard shoulder until Drome Corner (A494/A550/A548)

Worded sign on the Mold bypass
A sign on the A494(T) on the approach to the A541 junction from the south. If you've missed the B5443 junction, the A541 probably is part of a good route to Chester.

Signs on the Queensferry roundabout
The green sign was erected fairly recently. Whoever designed it decided not to simply copy the previous design.

Idea for part of A55/A494 junction
This is an adaption of part of the Welsh Assembly's proposal for the A55/A494 junction. Instead of the A494 joining the A55 at Pinfold Lane, it crosses it at a new Liverpool Road bridge and joins its current course at the Ewloe Roundabout (not shown).

Scene from a slip road 7/10/07
This just shows part of the roadworks at the A550/A5117 junction by Shotwick.
The unfinished road in the middle of the picture will eventually replace the slip road to the right. Now part of the A494

Part of the A494/A5104 junction at Corwen, highlighting the stop sign with its yellow backing board.
A route confirmation sign which used to be on the A494 by Queensferry.
A route confirmation sign which used to stand on the A550 near Queensferry.
The sign was eventually removed owing to the roadworks which had already claimed the slip road which used to be just around the bend.
This is a sign on the approach to the bridge which connects Woodbank Lane in Shotwick with Lodge Lane in Saughall. Neither road is likely to be suitable for a wide load (i.e. over 10'11).

A mile later we reach the end of the M56, and the road becomes the A494 at a seemingly arbitrary point.
Half a mile to Parkgate Roundabout.
ADS for Parkgate Roundabout. Only westbound exit on the A494 entirely in England.
As the exit sliproad leaves us we deviate from the path of the former A5117 to go under the A540.
Heading underneath the A540 at Parkgate Roundabout.
Climbing up from the underpass at Parkgate Roundabout. The entry sliproad is on the original path of the A5117.
The Lodge Lane overbridge.
Approaching Woodbank Interchange (and entry into Wales).
The westbound approach to Woodbank Interchange has a long curve.
Finally the exit slip road starts, as do the streetlights.
The 'Gateway Feature' of this junction are depictions of a Welsh dragon and a English lion. Here is the Welsh dragon, which appears on the westbound side.
And before we gain a third lane, we officially enter Wales.
3 lanes either way now on the A494 beside RAF Sealand (now on a separate road to the side).
A closer picture of that footbridge just after RAF Sealand.
This small section of road is virtually motorway standard with three lanes and hard shoulder.
400 yards before the third lane disappears...
