1992 proposal for A556(M). This moved the eastbound exit slip at M56 J7 to the west of the current A556. The connection to the M6 meant the north facing slip roads at Knutsford services only served the A556(M) and not the M6.

1993 proposal for A556(M). This made some improvements over the 1992 proposal. The eastbound exit slip at M56 J7 was moved back to a similar location to its previous location. The connection to the M6 now enables the north facing slip roads at Knutsford services to serve the M6 and A556(M). To counter any weaving issues the south facing slip roads at J19 have been closed. These have been replaced by a new junction at the A5033 which has been dualled between this junction and the A556.
