A761
Incorrect Road Sign
Road sign on the outskirts of Glasgow. There are three mistakes in the sign. Firstly the B768 is not a primary route and as most of you should know it's the A739 to the Clyde Tunnel, not the A737 and the road pointing left is the A761 and has been for as long as I can remember although this was once the A737. The A761 isn't even Primary at this point. As you will probably know the A737 currently starts at Glasgow Airport.

The original west end of the A761 is now a Lidl supermarket car park, from where this photo of Newark Street was taken. In the late 1960s, the junction with the A8 was realigned and replaced by a roundabout, by-passing Newark Street, which became a dead end at that time.
The foot of the A761 Clune Brae at Blackstone roundabout. This was the west end of the road until the A8 was realigned north of the railway in the mid 1980s, at which time the new Newark roundabout became the terminus.
This is the original A761, Clune Brae road. The present road (the A761 Kilmacolm Road) can be seen to the left.
The A761 Kilmacolm Road was realigned in the late 1960s. It used to run where the raised flower bed now stands.
The south Highlands and River Clyde seen from the A761 Kilmacolm Road. The building is a former BP filling station.
The light controlled crossing is part of the Port Glasgow 'super campus' development and is not yet operational (2013).
The former Woodside Garage and filing station by the A761 Kilmacolm Road on the outskirts of Port Glasgow. This was a thriving petrol station and garage in the 1970s.
Where the C37, Auchenbothie road meets the A761, Port Glasgow Road at the improved bend at Auchenbothie.
The former Post Office and the Old Kirk at Kilmacolm Cross. The C36 begins to the right of the Post Office.
The A761 leaving Kilmacolm towards Bridge of Weir. The Kilmacolm & Port Glasgow agricultural show is under way at Knapps Loch on the left.
The Phoenix retail park on the left, Phoenix business park on the right, the A761 road in the centre. This is the site of the former Linwood car factory (Rootes/Chrysler/Talbot Peugeot) which closed in 1981.
The phoenix rose from the ashes of the former Linwood car factory which saw various owners over the 20 years that it stood here. The road with the roundabouts is the A761.
The A761 continues under the railway bridge on the right and runs through Linwood, Bridge of Weir and Kilmacolm to end at the A8 in Port Glasgow. The B789 continues straight ahead to Elderslie and Johnstone.
The bridge carries the Glasgow to Ayrshire lines. The faded paintwork reads 'TALBOT Home of the Avenger & Sunbeam'. Scrape that paint away and you will probably find 'Chrysler' and 'Rootes' underneath somewhere. The car factory closed in 1981 and is now a mixed retail, leisure and industrial park. Ferguslie is beyond the bridge.
Main road into Millarston in the west of Paisley. Unusual in that it is a dual carriageway with no central island.
