Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Jul 29, 2007 by Kenny1975Clear evidence of S4 being converted into S2 plus excellent cycle path (although some cyclists still choose to use the road!!). If you look carefully, you might be able to see the old road markings - at least I could when I was there.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Jul 17, 2007 by scynthius726This is the cycle lane alongside the A77 alongside the new M77. There can be no doubt about what this used to be! :)
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Jul 17, 2007 by scynthius726This is the old A77, now very quiet because of the new M77. It has been converted from S4 to S2 with an excellent cycle path :)
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Jul 17, 2007 by scynthius726The Red House was a well known landmark on the route, and was originally a wayside cafe, but now just a house

Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Jul 12, 2007 by leopard680It's amazing to think that four lanes of heavy traffic squeezed onto this alignment, until only around 10 years ago.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Jul 12, 2007 by leopard680Approaching the section which widened to become D2 for the junction
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Jul 12, 2007 by leopard680This was a former D2 section, with the cycle lane now occupying the old northbound. It's curious that there's two sets of right-turn signs. At first I thought the left hand ones were the old ones, but they look new-ish, so perhaps they're for the cyclists. Stagecoach service 4 (Glasgow-Ayr) still uses the old road between Glasgow and Kilmarnock
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Jul 12, 2007 by leopard680No it's not still S4! The black & white bus is overtaking the red one, but that's what it would have been like back in the old days.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Jul 12, 2007 by leopard680Clear of the Glasgow city boundary the old S4 layout becomes apparent
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Jul 12, 2007 by leopard680S4 section still intact in February 2005. The new M77 can be seen on the right.

Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Apr 26, 2005 by M4SimonThis was always a bad bend, and it had been narrowed to D2 and a 40mph limit attached well before the new M77 opened.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Jul 12, 2007 by leopard680A more staid photo... this photo shows the old A77 (downgraded from S4 to S2 + cycle path) next to the M77 heading off into the distance :) Pity about the weather.
