Here, at Skelmorlie, you see how close the A78 is to the sea. Often in Bad weather, the road has to close and traffic is forced to use the back roads. Owch!

Here is the Northern entry the A78 makes in Largs at this point, we are right on the coast in often in Winter it closes so traafic often have to take the back roads to Wemyss Bay.

At this point, the A78 comes to the once famous Nardini's restdrant, now rapidly dedcaying. The main church is also shown

As the A78 is close to the sea, it passes some of the ferrys to the Scottish Islands. This one is only 10 mins from Largs to Great Cumbrae Island. The ferry is rather small.

Here is the A78 just before the station, destroyed in 1995 by a Class 318 ploughing though the station. Finally fully rebuilt in 2006. This bit can be very busy due to it being the middle of the town.

This is the typical condition of the A78 north of the Three Towns By-Pass. S2 & goes though lots of Towns. The Perfect road for Learner Drivers as the A78 is so variable from Town/city conditions to fast S2 country roads to D3 Dual Carriageway.

Welcome to the Three Towns By-Pass. Well not yet. We are not at the roundabout yet. The Tree Towns By-Pass is offically called the Adorssan, Saltcoats & Sevenson By-Pass but I'm calling it the Three Towns By Pass. It sounds better. Must admit the windsreen need a wash!

Here we are apporching the roundabout. This roundabout was built a few months before the Three Towns By-Pass opened. The A738 wasn't fully hidden revealing the number of the old road.

Here, we see the bridge that carries the SPT Largs Branch Line over the Three Towns By-Pass. This bridge forced the closure of the line for a few days as the road was being built.

This first section of the Three Towns By-Pass is S2+1. Though still single, this is much faster than the oringail road though the three towns witch is now called the A738.

Here is the A78 Dualed from inverkip to the Three Towns. The Three Towns By-Pass is fully graed sperated. The A742 is an all new road linking Hunterson Docks and Power Station to the new A78. The A760 junction has partual sub-trainneran slip roads.
