This is the Almondsbury Interchange. It is J15 of the M5 & J20 of the M4.

Almondsbury Interchange under construction, approximately 1966. The roads opened on 8th September 1966. Southbound M5 heads off to the left of the image, with the M4 running from top (Severn Bridge) to bottom. The M5 northbound was not completed for another 5 years.

By building a roundabout on the A38 above the M4 with 4 new slip roads (northern facing for the M4, southern facing for the M5), and closing certain roads between M5/15 and M5/16 the weaving between these junctions is completely eliminated. The M5 runs 163 miles from a junction with the M6 at West Bromwich near Birmingham to Exeter in Devon. Constructed between 1962 & 1977. It links the North and Midlands with the South west.
