Geddit? Er, anyway, the junction of A396 and old A361, now B3227.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Aug 08, 2007 by SteveA30Looking west. The priority is from A396 n. to B3227 w. I can't remember if that was always the case. Logically, the A361 would have had priority, as that was the busiest route.

This sign is wrong for two reasons: Firstly, the sign is located on the B3227 and while the Barnstaple road is close, the road south is about a mile and a half away. Secondly, the top sign seems to imply that Tiverton and Taunton are reached using the M5, while Exeter can be reached by staying on the A361.

Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Aug 08, 2007 by SteveA30Looking east at perhaps the shortest one-way system in the land. This would have been jammed solid in summers, before the NDLR opened in late 1988.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Aug 08, 2007 by SteveA30Descending into the Exe valley. The A396 is about 100' below the trees. One of several hairpins on the old route from Taunton to South Molton.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Aug 08, 2007 by SteveA30Looking south. The Black Cat garage is closed down but, remains intact, another frozen in time scenario. The house above is a cafe but, opening times seem obscure. A good place for owners of vintage vehicles to take period photographs.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Aug 08, 2007 by SteveA30Looking east across the river to the junction. House cafe visible.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Aug 08, 2007 by SteveA30View from a bridge, to the complex junction. I recall an August journey in the late 60's, when every road here was locked solid with holiday traffic. Now all you can hear is the burbling of the River Exe.

The road heading through the centre of the village of Bampton in Mid Devon.
