The nearer level crossing is for the mail line to North Wales and Shrewsbury, but a few yards further on there is another level crossing for the Vale of Rheidol Railway (narrow gauge).

The Vale of Rheidol Railway crosses the A4120 at Llanbadarn Fawr by level crossing. The 'main line' crossing is just a few yards along the road and can be seen behind the row of cars.

A network rail crew is maintaining the Vale of Rheidol Railway crossing at Llanbadarn Fawr. As the V of R is not part of the main line network, it is unclear (to me) why Network Rail staff are doing this. Possibly, as it is a public crossing, the V of R is obliged to have Network Rail do the work on safety grounds.

The level crossing at Llanbadarn Fawr. Controlled by lights without barriers, all trains have to stop to allow a crew member to operate the lights by means of a plunger.

The access road to the Glanyrafon business park crosses the railway here. Until the 1990's the crossing was unguarded and several rail/road collisions occurred. As can be seen, it now has barriers and lights. The inclined section of the road is in fact a bridge across the Rheidol.
