Approaching the end of the M3 at night

today I had travelled along a lot of motorways! From the M2 from Belfast city to the docks, after the 8-hour crossing to Birkenhead I took the M53, M6, M6 Toll, M42, M40 and then the A34 to Winchester before heading down the M3 at about 2am, where I am looking here by the gantries at the junction where I can bear left to join the M27 west or right to join the M27 east.

M3 Chilworth

An early Sunday morning, looking towards the southern terminus of the M3, where the A33 takes over. As can be seen, the motorway here is just D2; a reminder of the old days when it was the A33. Also note the white sign, which is actually on the motorway.

Many only use the left lane for the M3 in summer, because they can't read, causing long tailbacks. Widening to 4 lanes from J3 to here commences in Feb 2008.
