Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Jun 16, 2008 by YorklettsI found another GEC Z8691 on Shakespeare Road off Beach Avenue, near Minnis Bay! This one looks as if it's installed on a newer concrete column than my previous example, as the concrete still looks greyish in colour, so could well be the original lantern to be fitted to this column!

Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Oct 13, 2008 by YorklettsThis is a close-up of the GEC Z9481 lantern on a Stanton concrete column I pictured previously off the A1306. I don't think it works anymore, however, as I haven't seen it lit at night. It is also installed perpendicular to a footpath, so perhaps there was a road here at some point and it has been replaced by the footpath. Who knows? I know the A1306 had its layout changed a few years ago, but whether this was something to do with it I don't know!
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Dec 15, 2008 by RojojnrThis installation is also a loner on the road - it's a Philips MI50 installed on a CU concrete column. The concrete looks quite pale, so this column could be fairly new, probably dating from the mid-late 1980s. Just a shame the lantern is dayburning!
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Sep 02, 2009 by RojojnrAmong the geared MA90s on Front Lane is this lone GR100 installed on a CU Arc 2D column. I would imagine all the installations installed on Front Lane were like this at one time - perhaps this installation was newer than the rest at the time and so it was left untouched. Or perhaps the council was just being its weird self and missing some installations!
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Sep 02, 2009 by RojojnrThats quite some Stanton double bracket - not sure as to the lanterns. The old tram posts stood for years - I suspect they may carry Crompton Lions?

Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Apr 13, 2009 by YorklettsWelcome to Epping Forest! Where Redbridge's black ZX2s on white Fabrikat columns end, these CU concrete columns with various SOX lanterns mounted upon them take over! This Z9454 welcomes us warmly into Epping Forest and gives us a taster of what we're going to see here! Fencepiece Road was up until 1995 completely SOX lit (I think Redbridge's ZX2s replaced some Thorn Alpha 5s on S&L columns), but now it's a third metal halide (some ZX2s have been replaced by Furyos), a third SON (the ZX2s) and a third SOX.

Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Mar 06, 2009 by kevinse16This concrete column is one of many still standing in villages around Bedfordshire. The lantern looks like a variation of a Revo Prefect. The road sign no longer appears on Google Street View.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Aug 08, 2006 by TruveloThese columns are possibly made by Concrete Utilities. These streetlights, in the Poole suburb of Canford Heath, are mostly lit with Thorn Alpha 8 lanterns though the original lanterns were the GEC Z8526. Most of these streetlights, in this area, already have been replaced with the post top Alpha 2000s as shown earlier.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Jun 10, 2006 by DorsetWayThese columns are possibly made by Concrete Utilities. The lanterns are the earlier versions of the current Thorn Alpha 8 lantern. Situated in the Poole suburb of Canford Heath.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Jun 10, 2006 by DorsetWayThese are the two of the last remaining 'Stanton' columns, in the Poole area, have not been sleeved and still has the original GEC Z8526 lanterns.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Jun 10, 2006 by DorsetWayThis is the larger of the double type. The spread of modern post top Vectra's is continuing fast and the Thorn Alpha 1 on the sleeve in the distance looks set to bite the dust shortly.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Jun 22, 2006 by TruveloThe nearest light contains the longest fin bracket. On the right is the middle size and on the left with the MA lantern is the small size, behind that is another middle size. The two nearest ones are spalling.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Jun 22, 2006 by TruveloThis is one unusual type of concrete column, with Thorn Alpha 3 lantern, only found at Pottery Junction in Poole. I've seen plenty of this example in Germany especially throughout Berlin.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Aug 20, 2006 by DorsetWayHere are examples of the quite tall concrete columns with Thorn Alpha 8 lanterns present in the 2012 Olympics sailing venue of Weymouth. The original lanterns, until the early 90's, were of the GEC Z8526 type also known as Turtles.

Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Jan 22, 2007 by sotonsteveOnce a common sight in the city, arched columns with GEC Z9425s, but now extinct, although a fair few of the columns remain in sleeved form with GEC Z9454s, or Urbis ZX3s with CDM-T lamps as is the case on the A35 Winchester Road.

Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Jan 28, 2007 by ABeatonThis street retains many concrete brackets with mercury lanterns. The two nearest ones are Revo Prefects with the one on the left having an inline photocell. Behind the blue Corsa is a GEC Z5590 also with a inline photocell.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Feb 06, 2007 by TruveloA rare sight indeed is to find a street with all its mercury lanterns intact with no later replacements.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Feb 06, 2007 by TruveloHere are two dayburning Revo Prefects which is normally an indication of imminent replacement as the old lanterns are usually not maintained when due for replacement. The swanneck bracket has seen better days as a huge amount of tape has been applied to contain the spalling.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Feb 06, 2007 by TruveloWhen looking through my photos I realised that the bracket on this column didn't look too good. If it isn't removed soon it might break off the column and may cause serious injury, or judging by how heavy it looks, possibly death.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on May 20, 2007 by sotonsteveThese charming old concrete columns have since been sleeved and now have fluorescent lanterns
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Jan 23, 2008 by TruveloJust one of several grand-looking long-bracket CU concrete columns on Manor Road, Hainault. I've no idea what lantern that is though - the closest match I've found is a deep-bowled Z9554, but I don't even think it's that! Any ideas?
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Mar 22, 2009 by RojojnrA closer shot of one of the previous images reveals a P567 retrofit, which is also being replaced, two further Z8896s being replaced on the left, and an SGS101 retrofit at the end of the street, which is NOT due for replacement! TDC really can't seem to make up their minds about the casual replacements!
UPDATE: Both the dayburner in the foreground and the SGS101 have now been replaced. But why didn't the council just install the new column at the same time as the others? Surely it would've made their job a lot easier!

Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Mar 06, 2009 by kevinse16This lovely old swan neck in Sharpenhoe now has an unwelcome partner. The hideous thing next to it has sprung up throughout the village and it looks as though the older lighting in the area will bite the dust.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Sep 15, 2006 by TruveloThis was the first picture of the replacement scheme I took when I first arrived in Birchington.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Mar 21, 2009 by RojojnrThe CU column is the same age as Morrisons to the left - the road was widened here in 1986 when the store was built. The Turtle replaced a Revo C-something or other post top (similar to those in Wolverhampton from the 70s; see Claire Pendrous' site) in the early 80s. Not many Turtles survive, the majority being replaced with MRL6s (or rarely a Vectra). Before 2001, though, the town centre was definately Turtle-town; the A666 was lit with them entirely from Darwen Street to Barbara Castle Way.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Feb 05, 2007 by Bryn666here's something of an oddity... This installation is a fairly recent CU concrete column, with a replacement phillips MI26. But here's the odd bit:- the bracket is clearly a lot older than the column! why did they put an old bracket onto a new column?!
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Feb 01, 2007 by True YorkieWhile my trainer went out to get electrical bits, I wandered up the street and took a picture of this on corner of the main road. This is the same as the other I took a picture of, but still has it's bowl, and looks brilliant at night! All it needed to be fantastic was a swan-neck bracket.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Feb 07, 2007 by True YorkieThis solitary lantern is all that remains of what I assume are the original lanterns that were fitted to these columns when new. The rest have either been sleeved with Alpha 1's or new steel columns installed with SON lanterns.
