This roundabout junction with the N17 (Galway - Sligo road) marks the southern limit of the Collooney bypass, a D2 upgrade which has recently been extended all the way into Sligo town itself.

The dual carriageway section south of Sligo has recently been extended by the opening of the Sligo Inner Relief Route (IRR). Until last year, traffic on the N4 was dumped off the D2 onto suburban roads on the outskirts of Sligo. Now traffic can continue straight ahead.
