These signs, on the clockwise carriageway at J3-4, are considered confusing by some motorists, who end up cutting across the tiger-tails, etc. Why does this happen when this sign clearly points out the lanes...?

The lane drop is for the A2 exit, lanes 2, 3 and 4 for Dartford and the tunnel. Taken 1st October 2008. The gantries on the M25 are clear enough but I think those installed as part of the corresponding work on the A2 (westbound) approach to J2 are clumsy and reminiscent of a badly organised desktop in Windows! I'll try to get a picture soon to illustrate my point.

The bypass opened in 1958 but was widened in 1996 <a title='http://www.gandljdean.co.uk/ribble/pt13.html' rel='nofollow' href='http://www.gandljdean.co.uk/ribble/pt13.html'>Link</a><img style='padding-left:2px;' alt='External link' title='External link - shift click to open in new window' src='http://s0.geograph.org.uk/img/external.png' width='10' height='10'/> This bridge presumably dates from then.

Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Aug 23, 2006 by Sunil_of_Yoxleyhis is looking south on the bridge at Walshford, all traffic at this point is using the southbound carriageway then they split in the distance on to the right carriageways, but for now its 2 lanes eachway on the new motorway with a 50MPH limit until spring when it will fully open. To the left is a house where infront they have put up this new noise barrier and to the right is where the old A1 went round the bend now its straight on !!!

Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Oct 16, 2006 by andy31mThey still call it the M27 (E)...
Look at how the right hand part of the sign is bigger. This is just the old sign bodged up, hence the VMSs being slightly out of place.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Dec 18, 2005 by MSAJohnnyThe M8 is D4M here as it runs through central Glasgow. The Eastbound carrigeway is the nearer one and the Westbound carrigeway further from the camera and is higher up. This was to make room for an interchange with the M81 which was never built.
