Sealink Ferry at Folkestone Harbour Pier, 1979 A Sealink cross Channel ferry berthed at the pier in Folkestone Harbour in 1979.
Sealink was the brand name for the ferry services of British Rail which ran shipping services in the United Kingdom and Ireland from 1970 until 1984. All of Sealink’s Folkestone-Calais sailings were switched to Dover following privatisation in 1984. The Folkestone – Boulogne service continued until the end of 1991 when it was closed by the then operators Stena Line who had bought the company in 1990.
Folkestone Harbour ceased to serve as a cross channel passenger port in September 2000, when the Seacat Folkestone-Boulogne service was closed (http://www.folkestoneharbour.com/pages/history.html Folkestone Harbour Company).
