A82 Fort William - Coppermine - 15086.jpg
A82 cycle track at Fort William

A 2 million pound cycle track has been built (at the last minute) for the Mountain Bike & Trials World Championships being held at Nevis Range. As part of this the traffic lights at the junction of the A82 and A830 at Lochy Bridge have been replaced by a temporary mini-roundabout with a temporary Puffin crossing a short distance on the town side of the junction. Several bridges have been built as part of the track.

A82 - A830 junction - Coppermine - 14942.jpg
Traffic lights at A82 - A830 junction

Some years ago the roads either side of the traffic lights at the junction of the A82 and A830 were resurfaced with some sort of surface with presumably a better grips. This has been detiorating for some years and is now quite rough. Is this normal for this type of surface? Does it indicate poor design? poor workmanship? poor maintenance?

Level crossing, by Lochaber Smelter - Geograph - 4079730.jpg
Level crossing, by Lochaber Smelter This road is the main entrance to Lochaber Smelter. Here it is crosses a railway siding, which is used for delivering materials to the smelter. This level crossing is an "automatic open crossing" - it has flashing lights to warn traffic but no barriers.

NSL

I have seen 60 mph signs being used instead of NSL signs in rural areas and as repeaters but I was surprised to see these two at the end of the 40 mph limit in Corpach today.
