River Weaver - Hayhurst Bridge (C) John M
Innovative swing bridge from 1898 designed by Colonel John Saner. The weight on the pivot is carried on an air filled floating pontoon within a river caisson. This eliminates differential settlement due to poor ground conditions and the effects of movement from salt extraction. The swing mechanism was the first example of the use of electrical power.

This is one of a pair with the nearby Northwich Town Bridge.
