Iridium on a sleeved concrete column
Some of you may want to cover your screens here! This is an example of a casual replacement Iridium installed on the existing column. I personally think this doesn't look all that bad, but I'm sure many of you will beg to differ!

Iridium at M2 J7 #2
Here's a zoomed out shot of an entire installation, to show you what it looks like in its environment. I don't know what you think. but I think this looks fantastic - the green column really complements the greenery behind it. Just a shame that the lanterns are I-ruddy-ridiums (mind you, I suppose the Trafficvisions on the slip roads kind of make up for this).

Iridium at M2 J7
This is one of the smart new installations which are replacing 1987-installed SGS203s on the M2 at J7. The columns are painted green up to three-quarters of the way up before the bracket begins. Notice also that the lantern is fitted with a light direction shield to allow better distribution of the light. Iridiums have been used to light the mainline, while (strangely) Trafficvisions illuminate the off-slip road on the Kent-bound M2 and the on-slip on the London-bound carriageway.

Close-up of the bowl of one of the Iridiums
Although I generally dislike these installations, I am quite intrigued by the unusual choice of bowls! I've never seen Iridiums with this type of bowl before, so here's a close up of one of them.

Iridiums on unusual columns on Gale Street
The end of Gale Street past Becontree underground station is lit with these bowled Iridiums installed on some unusual octagonal steel columns, of whose manufacture I haven't a clue. These were installed a few years ago, replacing some rather manky-looking SGS203s on older columns.

Post-top Iridium installed on unsleeved concrete column
Barking and Dagenham has retained a lot of its side road concretes by retrofitting SGS203s or Iridiums side-entry or post-top (depending on whether the column was side-entry or post-top in the first place). This particular column has seen the Iridium installed post-top, therefore the previous lantern would've been, until a few years ago, an Eleco HW post-top running SOX. I think this is very good practice, although perhaps a nicer-looking lantern like a Gamma 6 running SON could've been used instead.

Iridiums in Vera
It seems like you can't get away from Iridiums anywhere! Here's a collection of some from Vera, Spain. Taken on 20th September 2007.

A mix of different lanterns seen here. Urbis ZX3, and Philips Iridium and Speedstar. Shrewsbury, Shropshire.
New street light column, casual replacement in Willenhall, Staffordshire. Its not often you see new sodium lanterns used for street lighting replacements anymore. Interesting as well how they've used the same bracket from the previous installation.
Hanwood Bank, just south of Shrewsbury. Most of the street lighting lanterns along this road are Philips MA90s, but these are the odd few casual replacements. Thorn R2L2 and Philips Iridium.
Just heading out of New Invention, along the A462, main road from Willenhall to Cannock. This is a fairly new column with a Philips Iridium lantern. It was only installed a few months ago.

Along the A499 in Wombourne. This section of the dual carriageway is lit with more modern steel street lights with Philips Iridiums. These were installed around 2015 and replaced dark grey columns, and the lanterns used to white coloured Urbis ZX3s with shallow bowls.

Philips Iridiums along the A461, just as you cross the border into Staffordshire. These modern steel columns and Iridiums were installed around 2015, replacing 1970s style street lights with old SOX/LPS lanterns.
Along Brookhouse Lane between Featherstone and Bushbury. 8m steel columns with Philips Iridiums and a WRTL Vectra. The original lanterns were the Iridiums and are over 10 years old, but strangely many of them were replaced around 2018 for the older looking 2600s, and earlier this year a couple more Iridiums were replaced for Vectras. Why this happened I do not know.
Along Brookhouse Lane between Featherstone and Bushbury. Short steel columns with a Philips Iridium and a WRTL 2600. The Iridiums were the original lanterns and are over 10 years old, but one of them was replaced around 2018 for the older looking 2600. All the other columns along this road are 8m ones and all originally had Iridiums as well, but strangely many of them were replaced for more 2600s, and earlier this year a couple more Iridiums were replaced for Vectras. Why this happened I do not know.
More modern 10m steel and aluminium columns with Philips Iridiums. These street lights were installed around about 5 years ago, when alterations were made to the railway bridge.
Along Broad Ln in Bloxwich, just coming over the railway bridge. These street lights seen here are 10m columns. There is one Philips Iridium on a more modern post in the foreground, and in the background are older posts with Urbis ZX2s.
Along St John Street in Lichfield. The street lighting seen here are modern steel columns with Holophane V-Max (LED) in the foreground and Philips Iridiums (SON/HPS) in the background.
Along the A41 between Wednesbury and Bilston. Seen here are long outreach brackets with Urbis ZX3s and a Philips Iridium. In the last couple of years the Walsall district have been using quite a few Iridiums for casual replacements, rather than LEDs.
Close up of a Philips Iridium 2 on a post-top aluminium column, along the A5 coming into Brownhills. The lantern used to be on a steel column, and the steel column originally had an Industria Vectra until it was replaced in 2015, which I have no idea why.

Along the A5 between Cannock and Brownhills, theres a new post-top aluminium casual replacement column with a Philips Iridium. It replaced one of the other aluminium columns with short curved brackets and Urbis ZX3s, as seen in the background.
10m street lights on the A5112 in Shrewsbury. Modern post-top steel column with an Urbis Ampera Maxi (LED), older column with a diagonal bracket and ASD Highway Diamond (LED), and a couple more columns with Philips Iridiums (SON/HPS). These would of all replaced SOX/LPS type of lanterns.

Just as you come over the M6 Toll, these are Philips Iridium 2s on post-top 12m steel columns. This is along the A5 coming into Brownhills. These columns originally had Industria Vectras until they were replaced in 2015, which I have no idea why.
Old 1950s Stewart & Lloyd street light with a Philips lridium (HPS/SON), which would not have been the original lantern. This is along Sundorne Rd (B5062), which is on the outskirts of Shrewsbury.
This is along the A5191 on the outskirts of Shrewsbury. Seen here are dark coloured post-top 10m steel columns with a Philips Iridium and Philips Traffic-Visions in the foreground, which are HPS/SON lanterns. The more stylish street lights in the background have Philips Speedstars (LED). The Iridium is a casual replacement and probably 5 to 15 years old. The Traffic-Visions look as if they've been there either since the late 1990s or early 2000s, and I think the Speedstars were installed some time around the early to mid 2010s.
One of the last remaining Philips Iridiums on the M5 in Worcestershire, closed up shot.
Black coloured 12m columns with Philips Iridiums along the A45 outside Coventry. These are some of the older columns that survived the PFI scheme that happened in the early to mid 2010s. All that got changed was the old lanterns and paint work. The previous lanterns were Philips Traffic-Visions/SGS306s, and I think the old colour of these columns was like a dark green.
This is a fairly new Philips Iridium 2 on the A5 in Cannock. It replaced a white coloured and deep bowled Urbis ZX2. The bracket has also been cut back as well.
