Gallery:M6 (Republic of Ireland)
Heading east at the eastern end of the bypass.

Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Aug 03, 2008 by csdWestbound approaching Moate.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Aug 03, 2008 by csdSign doesn't quite fit the assembly. Looks messy. The exit number is also upside-down.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Aug 03, 2008 by csdWestbound approaching J7. Taken 03.08.2008, when this section was not yet under motorway regulations.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Aug 03, 2008 by csdEnd of motorway regulations heading west at Athlone. The Athlone bypass dual carriageway continues straight ahead. That end-of-motorway sign is far too small!
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Aug 03, 2008 by csd...right at the end of the sliproad. I guess that means it's ok to hitch-hike right up to this point!
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Aug 03, 2008 by csdSo this is what they've done with the parking areas! Rather than obliterate them completely, like they did on the M9, they're now for 'Authorised vehicles'... expect this to be used to pull in speeding drivers!
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Aug 03, 2008 by csdClearly they don't measure the sign to the supports.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Aug 03, 2008 by csdIt's a terminal junction, so the TSM says patching is allowed. Looks ugly IMO.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Aug 03, 2008 by csdJust after the start of the Kilbeggan - Athlone section. Taken 03.08.2008; the road won't officially be a motorway until the end of September.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Aug 03, 2008 by csdThe 100 km/h speed limit is the only clue that the road isn't yet a motorway.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Aug 03, 2008 by csd2km ADS for J6. Taken 03.08.2008, when this section was not yet under motorway restrictions.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Aug 03, 2008 by csdLooking east from the overbridge that marks the western limit of the Kilcock - Enfield - Kinnegad scheme.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Nov 19, 2006 by csdThe M6 runs from the sign here to just underneath the bridge you can see in the distance, in this direction only. The opposite carriageway is signed N6. The tie-in with the N6 Kinnegad to Athlone (Phase 1) project is visible on the right. Rumour has it that this project is way ahead of schedule, and will open before the end of this year rather than the scheduled opening date of Q4 2007. It certainly looked very advanced when I passed nearby recently.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Oct 27, 2006 by csdJust after the Kinnegad East exit gore, signage for the N6 split. Note gantry in the distance.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Dec 12, 2005 by csdThis sign is new. The road won't be M6 for another 6 weeks at least. Compare to what went before at: http://sabre-roads.org.uk/gallery/albums/userpics/10077/normal_N6-05-speed-limit.jpg
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Aug 03, 2008 by csdGot the height wrong (as they did with all Exit signs on the M6 between Athlone and Kilbeggan)...but also put the Exit number upside down!
Left-hand carriageway is the M6, right-hand is a combination of the N6 and a slip-road off the M4. No M6 signage at all when going westbound.

Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Jun 02, 2009 by KevRIt appears that the resigning of the Kinegad - Kilbeggan section has started already. This used to be green. Note that it says 151 km to Galway: the previous RCS just after the M4/M6 split has Galway 147 km away..
