Gantry sign on the N18

This signs the junction with the N19 Shannon airport access route in Co Clare. This is probably the most westerly gantry sign in the country.

Direction sign on the N18

Northwest of the N19 split, this sign on the N18 is on the recently-completed Newmarket-on-Fergus bypass/Shannon Airport Access Route improvements. The dual carriageway is currently being extended to bypass Ennis to the north, a notoriuous bottleneck on the route to Galway.

M6 construction - Geograph - 1261629.jpg
M6 construction This is part of the construction of the M6 between Ballinasloe and Galway. When opened, expected late 2009 or early 2010, there will be a motorway standard road from Dublin to Galway. This section will be tolled and it follows a different line to the existing N6, via Athenry instead of Loughrea, so it will be interesting to see how many people continue to use the ???old??? road. This is a new over bridge being constructed for the N18. I am standing next to the existing N18. There will not be a junction here, as the terminus of the motorway is just to the west.
