River Avon, New Bridge
A road bridge carrying the A4 from the west of Bath towards Bristol. Looking downstream.

Bridge carrying the A4 at Newbridge, Bath
This bridge was built to replace the ford in 1734 to make the river Avon navigable. It was widened and altered in 1820’s. Note the two circular holes at either side to allow excess flood water to pass.
