St Stephens Street, Norwich

Main entrance road to the city centre from the south and formerly part of the A11 which now stops at the roundabout in the distance.

Brazen Gate, Norwich

Looking northbound from the Southwell Road bridge. Built in the early 90's on the route of a former railway line, this road was going to alleviate the pressure on the A140 Ipswich Road and eventually link up with the A47 Southern by-pass, providing a direct route into the city. Problem was though, it didn't quite go according to plan...

Brazen Gate, Norwich

Looking southbound from the same bridge. As can be seen, the road stops short of the next bridge, and from then on, the Lakenham Way footpath wends its way to the ring road. What was going to be a much needed new road has turned into an access road for Sainsbury's and a Norwich Union car park!

Grove Road, Norwich

Between the hours of 0730-0900, through traffic is not permitted through this short section of Grove Road towards the city centre. Buses and taxis are though, and it is this sign which switches round at the appropriate time.

Spotted on Redwell Street in Norwich on 13th November 2008. Lesser councils would have vandalised this installation by replacing the lantern with an Urbis Albany. Note the wall braces.

This is a map of Norfolk taken from Thomas Kitchin's 'The British Traveller' 1763. It was designed with stage coach travel in mind and was the first book of its kind (as far as I know). Unfortunatly I only have the map and notes from Norfolk. For a detailed version see the high resolution version (next photo)
