New A30

Looking west along the new road on Aug 2 1999. It opened on Aug 6, around 7am, from M5 to just west of B3177, where it crossed the old. They were going flat out to finish this, much earlier than scheduled, because Prescott had decided to get it open before the total eclipse the following week.

Meir tunnel West Portal (under construction) Looking towards Longton and probably taken during the summer of 1997. Photo shows the Holy Trinity church in Box Lane situated above the new A50 tunnel's western portal. The southern foundations of the footbridge are also visible on the left embankment.
