Just outside the co-op. looking up, can bring this view of another of Derby's mighty P179's

Looking down the street, and we can see the P179's stand proud.

Close up of a dayburning P179 - Coppermine - 10003.JPG
Close up of a dayburning P179

Apart from a dirty bowl, this phosco P179 looks like it could've been installed last week... oh, and apart from the dayburning issue! The base casting on these lanterns is larger and wider than the smaller P178's

one for Haymans!

This unit is illuminated with THREE phosco P222's! This is the best view I could get.

Most Dangerous Retrofit - Coppermine - 10022.JPG
Most Dangerous Retrofit?

The P567 cannot have been installed beyond 12 months ago, and I doubt the bracket spalled rapidly after the retrofit. This lantern is simply resting on the metal tube!!!

P567 retrofit (2) - Coppermine - 10023.JPG
P567 retrofit (2)

This one's replaced a concrete column, and is a CU hockeystick. the red illuminations behind is the CNE building (presently the highest building in Middlesbrough)

CU Phosco P567 on a Stanton concrete column - Coppermine - 18409.jpg
CU Phosco P567 on a Stanton concrete column

I took this shot to see how proportionate the P567 is to concrete columns, and I'm actually quite impressed! I think the P567 finishes off the installation quite nicely, as the lantern is the right sort of design for the shape of the concrete bracket. Even so, the original GEC mercury lantern is always better of course!

CU Phosco P226 (aka Philips MI 8) on a Stanton column - Coppermine - 18536.jpg
CU Phosco P226 (aka Philips MI 8) on a Stanton column

This installation is only one of two left on Epple Road - there were two more just behind the photographer, but they were replaced by Arcs a few months ago, whilst the other survivor is a little further up the road, looking like an oddball amongst the CU P567s on sleeved concretes! The lantern is a CU P226 (aka MI 8) and is installed on an unsleeved Stanton concrete column.

CU Phosco P567 on a different sleeve bracket - Coppermine - 18535.jpg
CU Phosco P567 on a different sleeve bracket

This is a very common lantern-column combination on Birchington's side roads, with the sea front being lit predominantly by these installations up to West Bay. This installation on Essex Gardens, off Canterbury Road, therefore, is just one of the series! The lantern is yet another CU P567, and the column is GEC.

CU Phosco P567 on a CU hockeystick - Coppermine - 18534.jpg
CU Phosco P567 on a CU hockeystick

This is a complete CU installation, and is fairly popular on Thanet's side roads, although the SGS101 and Arc installed on Stainton columns have now become those incumbents! I like this installation - the P567 really complements the shape of the hockeystick, and more to the point, it is installed on a column of the same make!

CU Phosco P567 on a telegraph pole - Coppermine - 18533.jpg
CU Phosco P567 on a telegraph pole

Now here's a classic streetlight - the lantern may not be a classic, but the telegraph pole mounting certainly is! There are two or three side roads off Canterbury Road lit with telegraph pole-mounted lanterns, and I have found four different lanterns installed on them! This CU Phosco P567 forms just a quarter of these!

CU Phosco P567 on sleeved GEC column - Coppermine - 18532.jpg
CU Phosco P567 on sleeved GEC column

I took this photo to see how proportionate the CU P567 is on sleeve brackets, and I'm quite impressed! I still think it looks better on unsleeved concrete columns though! What do you think?

CU Phosco P678 on Stainton column - Coppermine - 18531.jpg
CU Phosco P678 on Stainton column

This is one of the two standard installations on the Isle of Thanet, the other being the WRTL Arc, also installed on Stainton columns. This example is one of many which can be found on Canterbury Road.

Phosco P108 in Norton carpark - Coppermine - 10098.JPG
Phosco P108 in Norton carpark

another photo I took while on work break. In this carpark in Norton, a Gamma Basique has been installed to replace the Phocso P108 on CU concrete column. The only way I'd approve this replacement is if the Gamma was either Metal-Halide or fluourescent. there is another basique in the carpark which is SON, which i dissaprove of.

A shy Phosco P179! - Coppermine - 9782.jpg
A shy Phosco P179!

This phosco P179 seems to be hiding from everybody! This can be seen in Derby's main shopping street. The next column along was also hidden in trees, but the P179 was missing.

Streetlights with CU Phosco 678 lantern, Bournemouth Dorset - Coppermine - 6329.jpg
Streetlights with CU Phosco 678 lantern, Bournemouth Dorset

Sadly the old Z8426s, from this point, have disappeared in favour of the American style CU Phosco 678 which are today's lanterns for Bournemouth.

Sleeved residential concrete streetlight with CU Phosco 567 lantern, Poole Dorset

The CU Phosco 567 lantern, along with the Thorn Riga, is now the standard lantern used for residential streets in Poole replacing the Thorn Beta 79 and the old GEC lanterns.

CU-Phosco Columns Portslade - Coppermine - 5811.jpg
CU-Phosco Columns Portslade

Looks like these old CU-Phosco columns (supposedly from the 1970s) are hanging on by their teeth. Some replacements have already occurred, new lanterns on all posts now.

Coming off the M54 and on to the M6. The street lighting along the central reservation are now lit with Phosco P862 (LED) lanterns, and the sliproads are lit with Urbis Ampera Maxi (LED) lanterns. The prievious lanterns along the central reservation were WRTL MRL6s and Philips Iridium 2s (both HPS lanterns), and the sliproads used to be Philips MA60s (LPS).
IMG 4372.JPG
The very last motorway catenary lighting installation in the country from what Ive seen, lit with Phosco P415 (LPS) lanterns. This is along the M1 between Watford and the M25 interchange. Apparently this lighting is sadly due to be removed from what Ive heard, and I imagine should be gone by 2020.
IMG 4447.JPG
Phosco P860 (LED) lanterns along the M1 at J8. The prievious lanterns were Urbis Sapphires (HPS), and before that was catenary lighting with Phosco P415s (LPS).
IMG 4446.JPG
Phosco lighting along the M1 at J6, just outside Watford. P415s and catenary lighting (central-reservation), and the P860 series (slip-roads). The prievious lighting for the slip-roads were Philips MA50s.

Phosco P862 lanterns now light the M6 from J10 to J10a (M54 junction) since 2018. From 2019 they've since installed more of these lanterns from J10a to J11a (M6 Toll junction) as well. Picture taken in 2018.

Some of the surrounding lighting of the column with the Phosco P222 near Halesowen. Mainly old 1970s/1960s metal columns, except with LEDs, such as Holophane V-Max.

IMG 5122.JPG M6 Motorway Junction 10.jpg
J10 of the M6. Sadly all of the Urbis ZX3s here have been replaced with LEDs, Phosco P862 lanterns. The central reservation installations have had the brackets shortened, but they haven't done the same with the sliproad lighting, which seems a bit odd.
Street lighting outside Wolverhampton bus station.jpg
Outside the bus station in Wolverhampton. Where they're doing the tram works, they've installed a new street lighting column with Phosco LED lanterns. The older column is the same style but has older Urbis cosmo lanterns, which were installed about a decade ago now.
IMG 5677.JPG Phosco P851 lanterns.jpg
Unusual looking columns and Phosco P851 lanterns. Not quite sure though if these are the original lanterns.
IMG 5298.JPG Lichfield Cathedral Street Lighting.jpg
Classic old fashioned style street light. This is just outside Lichfield Cathedral. The lantern is just so big and in your face. Ive heard that it is a Phosco P109 apparently.

Taken in August 2018. Jericho Lane, south of Liverpool. These are Phosco Liverpool-A lanterns, which were specially made only for Liverpool back in the 1980s.

IMG-5813.JPG Phosco WRTL Liverpool.jpg
WRTL MRL6 and Phosco Liverpool-A along Riverside Drive in August 2018. Column with the MRL6 is a casual replacement and would of been another Liverpool-A and post-top at one time, many years ago though it seems so.
5973.JPG Phosco P850 Leeds.jpg
Just off Quebec Street and along side Wellington Street in Leeds. The street lights here are now lit with Phosco P850/1 lanterns, which are LED and were installed a few years ago. The original lanterns were Selux Urbi 2s, which I presume ran on HPS/S0N lamps. This picture was taken back in the Summer of 2019.
8544.JPG m6 j10 phosco p862.jpg
Phosco P862 lanterns which are LED, only installed last year. This is at junction 10 of the M6, the northbound sliproad heading on to the motorway. Due to the roundabout redevelopment work that is currently taking place, some of these lights have been removed already, and probably more will go soon too.
IMG8542JPG M6 J10 street lights.jpg
Junction 10 of the M6. Seen here around the roundabout is Philips SGS203 (HPS/SON), and a Phosco P862 (LED) on the sliproad. The SGS203 is just a casual replacement, and P862s were installed all along the main carriageway and sliproads of the motorway. All of the lanterns that were here before would of been Urbis ZX3s (SON/HPS). As of now, the SGS203 will definitely be replaced again soon, and probably even the few P862s on sliproads closer to the roundabout will probably be going too, as the whole junction is being redeveloped.
8739.JPG Philips Lumas & Phosco P860 A5.jpg
Philips Lumas along the slip-road to the A5148, and a Phosco P860 casual replacement on the A5 roundabout. These lanterns are all LED. The Lumas were installed in 2014 and replaced Industria Vectras (HPS) when alterations and improvement work was made to the roundabouts, and the P860 would of been installed some time between 2018 and now.
8812.JPG Phosco P860s M42 Motorway.jpg
Phosco P860s (LED) along the M42 that replaced Urbis ZX3s (SON) in 2017/18. The columns with shorter brackets used to have white coloured ZX3s, and the ones that were on the longer brackets were the darker colour versions.
8787.JPG Phosco P860 M42 Motorway.jpg
Phosco P860 (LED) along the M42. These lanterns all replaced white Urbis ZX3s (SON). Photo taken from the A452 roundabout above.

Phosco P860s (LED) along the M42 that were installed in 2017/18. The longer brackets used to have Urbis ZX3s (SON), and the short brackets and post-tops you can just about see in the background used to hold Industria Vectras (SON).
