Northbound looking towards the former temporary terminus of the M1. The M1 would have started where the central barrier ends and headed in a straight line in the distance. This is now abandoned and the road now turns right but the road markings and unlit streetlights of the abandoned stretch are still there. The M1 now runs to the left of the picture.

The (learner) driver in front is about to cross the border - since (s)he had been carefully observing the annoying NI provisional restriction by sticking to 40mph, I'll assume the driver was in possession of two provisional licences, one for each juristiction. You can just make out the change in road markings and the 100km/h speed limit signs just across the border.

Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Mar 02, 2007 by DorsetWayThis pedestrian crossing seems staggered and split in two parts but actually the lights do not work separately that the 'two' crossings both show the same lights as if it is a one single crossing rather than two. Quite bizarre!

Another view of the Airport Crossroads.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Jun 04, 2007 by DorsetWayThis crossroads, at Dublin Airport, the Mellor traffic lights on all four arms all have protected right turn arrows merged with the main set of lights instead of another separate set.

Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Mar 02, 2007 by DorsetWayTraffic lights on a separate left or right turn lane, in Ireland, usually have flashing amber arrows to warn of giving way to traffic already on the main road. This prevents the driver from assuming they automatically have right of way. Sometimes 'Give Way/Yield' signs are immediately displayed after the lights. Central Dublin
