Start of M8
The recently-opened M8 starts at this roundabout, just north of Fermoy. Note the unusual destination, 'Toll'.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Oct 16, 2006 by csdMain Street, Urlingford At one time this was the main road from Cork to Dublin. Since 2008 it has been by-passed by the M8.
The M8 under construction at junction 13, south of Mitchelstown.
This shows the section under construction in December 2008. The overbridge is carrying the single carriageway N8. When the motorway beneath opens, the road above will be reclassified the R639.

The motorway ends approximately 1 km south of this point, the diverge for the Watergrasshil exit. There was some controversy as a short section of what was previously the free N8 became part of the tolled M8. This forced those that wanted to avoid the toll to head through Watergrasshill, which was previously bypassed.
