A4189 - Unfinished Bridge
A bridge on the A4189 in Redditch New Town that only has the bridge span for one carriageway, although the abutments allow for two. Similar it crosses a minor local road that was obviously meant for better things. Taken on the Birmingham roadtrip 24/02/07.

Map showing how Redditch could have looked if the entire road network planned in the 1960's was built.
Original plan for Redditch Ringway. It would have started and finished on the same roundabout with a filter lane to allow traffic wanting to remain on the ringway to avoid the roundabout.
Early design for Redditch Ringway as a dual carriageway with roundabouts. This is from a 1967 planning map. This is the earliest planning map known for the new town and all subsequent maps show the ring road as a one way street which is how it was built.
Icknield Street Drive B4497, Redditch (C) Robin Stott
Railings to left and right indicate one of the town's many pedestrian subways. Icknield Street Drive is a busy road linking districts and joining the Warwick Highway A4189 and the Birmingham Road A435 north of Studley. The latter is on the line of the Roman Icknield Street which gets lost in the Matchborough estates but reappears as a leafy residential road before continuing north out of the town west of Beoley as a quiet minor country lane.

Taken from McDonalds car-park, roundabout in Redditch. You can see the signage fairly clearly and the road numbers of around this area. Street lighting seen here are 10 metre columns with TRT Aspect (LED) lanterns. The prievious lanterns were probably Urbis ZX3s or SGS203s, HPS/SON lighting.
