A windy view of the (original) Severn Bridge.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Mar 18, 2006 by JeniThis was taken from the Severn View services on the M48. It's of the First Severn Bridge with Wales in the background at sunset. Taken April 2006.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on May 19, 2007 by ATJ0888A picture I took of the severn bridge on a trip to Wales back in 2006. It shows some quite murky weather, taken using a disposable camera.

Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Jan 16, 2007 by SteveA30The former Aust Services basks in the sunshine, as the reason for its later demise lurks in the distance. By the time the sun rose again, the M4 had transferred to the new bridge. Opened in September 1966, along with the first bridge, it closed circa 1999, after Pavilion finally admitted defeat.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Jan 16, 2007 by SteveA30June 5 1996, last day of the M4 over the Severn Bridge. This view is from Severn View Services, also history , as the MSA is now private land. The present Services occupies smaller premises slightly inland.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Jan 14, 2007 by SteveA30View from the old Aust Services of the old M4. New M4 barely visible in the heat haze. Remember the telescope just by this spot?
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Jan 14, 2007 by SteveA30The final morning westbound queue at the Toll Booths on the last day of the M4 on this route. Taken from a footbridge over the top of the booths, which I only discovered on this day. It leads down to the Severn on the opposite side to the MSA.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Jan 14, 2007 by SteveA30Looking west. Today, this is the M4, tomorrow, the M48.

Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Sep 27, 2009 by SteveA30You can just make out what it says. Not many observers now.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Sep 23, 2009 by SteveA30Only 6 years before it lost most of its traffic.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Sep 23, 2009 by SteveA30Just about readable. Sept 8 1966. Taken Sept 8 2009. Happy 43rd birthday, bridge. No-one around though.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Sep 23, 2009 by SteveA30Just readable list of engineers.

Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Sep 23, 2009 by SteveA30One of 2 telescopes still pointing forlornly at the bridge. How many thousands once peered though these? A very lonely spot now, full of memories for those of us who stopped here in M4 days.

Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Feb 21, 2007 by Gareth ThomasThis ('Chepstow A466') being slightly unusual in that it says '2m' rather than the usual '1m', due to the bridge being in the way. ;-)

Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Jan 16, 2007 by M4 CardiffClosest you can probably get to one. All the Severn Bridges are 'Slim Jims' I presume due to limited clearances. This is the last skinny one on the English side towards the M5 before they become standard box types again.
